The Caravan Club provide services and activities for 1 million caravan, motor caravan and trailer tent owners, as well as offering a superb choice of quality caravan parks and caravan sites throughout the UK and Ireland. The Caravan Club is by far the largest touring organisation of its kind in Europe. With over half the UK caravanning population as members, it sits at the heart of UK caravanning. And, with its breadth and depth of expertise, it is the premier source of services and activities for 1 million caravan, motor caravan and trailer tent owners. The Club provides members with a choice of around 200 Club Sites and some 2,500 Certificated Locations, together with an unrivalled range of exclusive services.

The Caravan Club is run by members, for members. Our membership is dedicated to exploring all that caravanning has to offer, and sharing that knowledge throughout the community.

Club facts

  • Membership of The Caravan Club currently stands at 360,000 families, representing around 1 million caravanners, motor caravanners and trailer tent owners.

  • Including Site Wardens there are over 800 staff, with 250 at Head Office in East Grinstead. The Club's annual turnover is £86 million. The Club has no borrowings and finances all expenditure from revenue and reserves.

  • The Club was formed in 1907 by ten men and one woman, and must be one of the very few organisations that has had the same title and aims ever since.

  • The Wanderer caravan was the first purpose-built leisure caravan made in 1885. It still exists and is owned by The Caravan Club. There is a picture of Wanderer on the Press Photo Gallery page.

  • Membership grew slowly until 1939 when it stood at 1057. It had doubled by 1945 and reached 10,000 in 1954. The 100,000 milestone was reached in 1971 and 250,000 in 1982.

  • Club members own a total of 500,000 cars, making The Club a major customer of the motor trade.

  • The Club provides 18 million bed nights per annum - more than many major hotel chains.

  • On average Club members spend £40 per family per day on local purchases such as fuel, eating out, visiting local attractions and buying food and clothing. This means that Club members spend more than £270 million every year in the local economy.

  • On average there is a Caravan Club badged Site for every 30 square miles of Great Britain.

  • Over the last six years The Club has invested over £66 million on its Sites, the majority of which was spent with local building contractors, landscapers and other trades.

  • Every year The Caravan Club's Overseas Travel Service make reservations for over 30,000 member families who travel abroad.
